Which AI tools will we focus on?
Right now, the tool of choice for this course is Chat GPT. All examples in the course are with the free version of the tool, and I’ll show you how to use everything you need to get the best results without any additional tech.

It sounds complicated. How much theory is there?
We won’t waste time trawling through endless “theory” and mindmaps, and you don’t need to be a tech whizz. Instead, we’ll arm you with some effective story structure templates and show you the exact prompts you need to create a full book outline in just a few minutes. We’ll even show you how to draft entire scenes using AI, and refine for Point of View, tone, action, and dialogue. No fluff, just action.

What’s the deal with copyright?
Any text created by AI tools can not be copyrighted. If you write your entire book using AI, this would make the book a “public domain” work. However, if you use AI to assist you in planning and plotting your book, and the expression of those ideas is yours (eg you write it yourself) then the usual copyright rules apply.

Do I need to pay for any tools?
No!

Can AI just write the book for me?
You could write an entire novel using AI using the approaches in the program, but the sessions are designed to treat AI as a support tool for your process, rather than getting it to write everything for you. If you do decide to go that route, please consider the answer above regarding copyright.

What’s all the controversy around AI tools?
We cover this in more detail in the course, including suggestions on how you might use the tool in a responsible and ethical way. The main controversies surrounding AI Tools relate to a lack of consensus on whether some of the content it used to “train” itself should require the tool’s creators to pay a royalty, and how the future of the tool can be adapted to include a system of compensation for copyright holders.

Do I need any writing experience?
No! We’ll go through everything you need to learn in the course, including how to research the perfect ideas for your genre and some simple tips and tricks to get your book 100% planned out (with written prompts and drafts if you like), even if you’re a total beginner.

Any Genres this isn’t suitable for?
Not that we’ve seen! We’ve included examples from several genres, including non-fiction and children’s books.

It all starts with an idea…

In this session we’ll look at how to come up with GREAT ideas for your next book using Chat GPT (even if you have no idea where to start) and then how to “test” that idea by turning it into a full book premise – so that you can tease out the key elements of the characters’ journeys, the core conflict, the stakes, and the emotional connection that will fuel your writing. 

Once you have the perfect idea – and the perfect premise – we’ll look at how to develop your outline. But for now, it all starts with your Bestselling Idea!

Crafting The Basic Outline:

With your idea solidified into a premise that covers the core character motivations, conflict, and stakes, it time to expand your premise into a basic outline. 

With the outline, you’ll see how your book progresses through various “phases” that will lead your characters – and your readers – through an emotional journey that all culminates in a satisfying conclusion (that will leave readers wanting more). 

Once you have your basic outline provided via Chat GPT, you’ll be able to dive back in and create supporting characters and subplots.

Characters, Supporting Characters, Sub-Plots, and Detailed Outline:

We’ll also look at how to give these supporting characters their own journeys and arcs, and how to effortlessly weave these throughout your book as we create the final, detailed outline.

With all the major “phases” and plot developments broken down in your outline, it’s time to break these down further into specific chapters.

In this session, we’ll look at how to structure the perfect chapter, how to ensure chapter POVs are appropriately distributed among your characters, and the specific narrative or developmental beats each chapter needs to address.

We’ll also look at how to refine and this structure to suit your needs and meet reader expectations – all with help from Chat GPT. With the right approach, you’ll have your chapter list ready to go within a few minutes.

Chapters into Scenes – The Full Story:

With your chapter list ready to go, it’s time to use Chat GPT to explore the specifics of each scene within your chapter.

Where is the scene set? What are the sights, smells, sounds? The atmosphere? Which characters are present? How is dialogue handled? How does the scene progress the narrative? How does the scene affect your characters’ actions, motivations, and arc?

We’ll use Chat GPT to map this all out for us – and, of course, look at how to refine and adapt the results to suit exactly what you’re looking for.

Scenes into Story Beats – and Pre-Written Drafts:

Often, each scene will contain multiple story beats that are integral to the larger plot or character arcs.

With help from Chat GPT we can keep track of everything that needs to happen, and the specific details, without getting tied up in a knot or going off track.

To make your writing process even easier, we’ll also look at how to use Chat GPT to write drafts of these beats for you – so you can use them to job your memory later, or give you a starting point for your own words and prose when you sit down to write.

We’ll also look at how to adapt and tweak these drafts to match and compliment your own style and voice, and how you can easily re-frame each beat from a different POV or setting – so you can quickly see what works best for you.
